What is the best way to do patch recreations from the On Your Own tasks in my synth of choice?

For Hardware Synths:

Requirements:

  • Syntorial software or standalone synth
  • Hardware synthesizer
  • Computer or iPad running Syntorial

Steps:

Setup Your Workspace:

  • Position your hardware synthesizer conveniently near your computer or iPad running Syntorial.

Launch Syntorial Synth:

  • Access the Options menu on your desktop or the menu on your iPad to launch the standalone Syntorial synth.

Select the Target Patch:

  • Navigate to the Presets menu in Syntorial.
  • Open the 'On Your Own' folder and find the presets that match the On Your Own lesson number (e.g., if you're on “On Your Own 4” look for presets that start with 4). Load the first one.

Patch Recreation:

  • Try to replicate the Primer patch sound on your hardware synth by adjusting parameters to match the sound of the Syntorial patch as closely as possible. It doesn't need to be exact, just very similar.
  • Play the same notes or sequence on both synths to compare sounds.
  • Repeat this process for any On Your Own patches that have the the correct number.

MIDI Management:

  • If you're also using your hardware synth as a MIDI controller for Syntorial, it will play both synths at the same time. In this case we recommend using your QWERTY keyboard to play Syntorial instead.

For Software Synths:

Requirements:

  • Primer (Plug-in version of Syntorial's synth) which can be downloaded from your online account.
  • Your chosen software synthesizer
  • Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)

Steps:

Setup in DAW:

  • Open both Primer and your chosen synth plugin in your DAW, each on a different track. This allows for easy toggling and comparison between the two simply by switching tracks.

Select the Target Patch:

  • Within the Primer, navigate to the Presets menu, access the 'On Your Own' folder, and find the presets that match the On Your Own lesson number (e.g., if you're on “On Your Own 4” look for presets that start with 4). Load the first one.

Patch Recreation:

  • Try to replicate the Primer patch sound on your synth by adjusting parameters to match the sound of the Syntorial patch as closely as possible. It doesn't need to be exact, just very similar.

Lesson Packs

Check if there are specific Syntorial lesson packs available (e.g., for Serum, Massive, Sylenth1) which provide additional presets tailored to those synths.
